3.0 killer
Link to my build over on marlin. Yes, its taken a LONG TIME!
http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=23424.0
And of course, my most recent activity (done today)
Removing the bed
Tucked back inside the garage
Temporary home for the bed
Now that the bed is off, I'm going to mount my OBA tank, so its ready when I finally do it, remount my exhaust, redo my exhaust mounts, and raise my gas tank. Probably also pull it and mount the 60 when/if I get one.
Cab:
Getting ready to cut the back of the cab out, and I needed to hammer out the drivers side xcab section, and try to get my drivers side door to close.
Door/excab section:
Before:
inside:
Not lining up:
Closing and lining up again, well sorta:
done for the day:

Re: 3.0 killer
For those of you that don't know, the plans are:
Cut the back of the cab out. Mount seats in the front of the bed (hopefully Blingns, if he still wants to give it up ) The excab section will now be some nice leg room for the rear seat passengers. Interior cage extending into the bed to protect the backseat, keeping it low profile in order to hopefully slide a shell over the cage. Basically I'm turning the truck into a runner, my way.
IFS is coming out, finally, and probably going to get replaced by a 44 for the time being, looking for a 60 eventually. Currently looking for a 60 for the rear.

Re: 3.0 killer
thanks guys. Chris, they In the past they usually break on the stub shaft going into the diff. I've broken 3 at this point now though, which is unusual I guess. I've broken 2 or 3 stub shafts wheeling the IFS, and on the 'con I broke 3 axles right at that point.
You got any idea what else he's got Rob? I mainly need the stuff to do the swap (hanger, shackles, etc.) steering, gears, and driveshaft flanges.

I think Rob still has the behind the axle crossover/Hi-steer d44 arms that I was going to use before I went 1 ton.

Dude, do you ever talk to your woman? she said this week wasn't the best timing, so I picked up a partial shift. I picked up the axles and went back up to work.
Speaking of axles, here's my new stuff!

Re: 3.0 killer
Got some work done on my front axle today.
View from my workspace
Pulled the cover, let the gear oil drain out. Let the work begin!
Pass. side hub
Question:
What is that thing inside? It appears to be some sort of nut, but I can't tell? Need a special tool to remove? I got the nut that looks like a gear off this side, got it to spin of with a screw driver. Drivers side, not so lucky. I'm guessing there's a special socket for that piece as well?
I'm guessing once I get that off, I can pull the rotor of the spindle?
Ball joints were not working with me today
Pass. side done
When you don't have the right tool for the job, make do:
Both ball joints on the drivers side decided to cause problems
scuffed up the ears on this side a bit :_oops:
Gears are out:
Dont think the carrier is supposed to look like that
pinion
still gotta pull this out of the ear.
