Post by Guest Wed Aug 05, 2009 10:25 am

Well... I got an idea for pushing the front forward without extending the frame. Not very good pics, but it looks like this guy just used long/reinforced shackles. I would think I could do this and move the rear mount forward.... any thoughts on this?

Here's what it looks like now, as you can see the front axle is pretty far back when compared to the red Migo. When the tire comes up it stuffs into the floorboard so bad the rig won't move:

Here's what I'm thinking about accomplishing:

so basically a reverse shackle setup, like whats on a lot of jeeps. Shackle in the front, mount in the rear. Should work, you can prolly get 2-4 inches I'd guess. I wouldn't want to go too long, I've never liked the idea of my suspension being they very first thing to possibly meet a rock.

I agree- I wouldn't go too long. I'd probably stick with what, an 8" max shackle? I think this could work. Why didn't I think of this sooner... Oops

Look into it a bit on some jeeper forums. I know a lot of jeepers swap it, to the normal configuration (shackle in the back) and I'm not sure why. You don't want to jump into a problem that they're all trying to avoid.

Good point - I've posted it on Pirate on my Migo thread - but I may start a new thread in the newb section just for giggles.

From what ive read the shckle in the front is not good for street and causes drive shafts to fall apart in travel situations but with a square long travel shaft it would probably work I think the one adavantage is when the springs flex it pushes the axle forward instead of back. I could be wrong about all this cause its just what Ive read online and I have no first hand experience.

You're right, it will push the axle forward for sure. However, the Migo is going to be a trailer queen because I can't afford to register it for the street. So, most likely the green sticker is going to be on it before too long.

I have an extended slip on the front DS.... but I'll deff look into that thanks J!

Biggest thing issue is pressure. What happens in that situation is when the suspension compresses, it pushes the axle forward. that making it harder and addind more peassure to your suspension and axle components. I would vere away from this conversion..

What is the measurement from the front of your current spring mount to the center pin of the leaf pack?

True...

So is that something I can do on my own? Take my pack apart and put a new hole in the main - then put it all back together and call it good??? I would think that would make it weaker at the ubolts, and it seems like I'd be busting centerpins all day long. '93 Migo 980970

What springs do you have up front? Toyota rears? Have you already flipped them so the short side is forward? What about some other leaves with a different centerpin offset?

I'm running toyota rears up front and of course they're already flipped backwards Smile

I found a solution - I think:

Either these (they're like 8" long), I can weld them up and have them stick out in front of the frame 2":

'93 Migo Frenched%20spring%20hanger

'93 Migo Chassis%20link%20brackets

Or this, which is designed specifically for pushing out the hanger and moving the front forward. However, I like the above idea better:

Gee thanks for reminding me Brainy

Hmmmm.....

1. Rear leafs to push the rear back between 8-10" with minimal work (thinking all it *should* take if I don't use wider leafs, is re-mounting the rear shackle mount)
2. French mounts in the front to extend the front forward
3. Lower the whole thing a bit
4. Cut out the rear quarter and the front wheel well
5. Register/green sticker
6. Shocks all around
7. (if I have time) cover the big freekin hole in the middle of my floor
