Quick Half Doors

I wanted some half doors for a Fordyce trip but by the time I found some cheap, relatively straight doors I only had about a day to make them.

Overall I guesstimate I have about $70 bucks into them (though I already had all the grinding/cutting wheels and paint, but I will figure that in anyway).

$40 for both doors
$3.00 for a 10' 2x4
$5.00 for (40) self tapping screws
$14 or so in grinding and cutting wheels
$10 in spray paint

My final goal is to take the interior cloth which is still in decent shape and cut it to match, and fold it over for a nice fuzzy inside and top edge. The color the doors came with was blue, so I may go junkyard searching to find some brown ones to match my interior. I also plan to incorporate a cup holder somewhere.

Here are the donor doors for the operation:



Cut the top frame off:



Took me a while to decide how exactly I wanted it, decided to go flush with the interior door latch. The horizontal line I cut exactly 8" from the top of the door. The other one I don't remember what it was, I had to mess with it for a while to get it right.



Time to cut:

Once they were cut, I measured out my 2x4 and chopped it where I wanted it. The horizontal piece was easy, the angled piece was the tricky part. Depending on how you cut the angle in the door, you will have to measure the wood accordingly. It took a while to get it right but a little trial and error got it in there.







Painted em up:



Added a little Marlin flavoring and installed em:






There you have it. I think they turned out pretty good for the cheap and quick investment.

Those came out nice for how much time you had to build them. Where are you, I might have a tan/brown door panel yoou can have.

how did they hold up? how were they to lean out of them and look at your aproach? what kind of latch did you use? Looks real good!!

ohh also one of the most important things do they have cup holders?

They held up great! No complaints what so ever. I found them to be at perfect "arm rest" height. Visibility was awesome. If you look at this picture you can see they are at just the right spot to comfortably rest your arm on.

No cup holders yet. I plan to do a lot more work with these suckers. I want to add interior trim and a cupholder design, as well as put the original arm rests back on for aesthetics.
