HI STEER

Post by Jay D on Fri Mar 07, 2008 2:22 am

I plan on installing hi steer and IFS box on saturday. Any tips or advice with mounting the box or the steering arms to the knuckles? Question Oh and making sure the box is centered before installing the pitman. Question

I recommend putting your IFS box as far forward as possible. steering arms are no big deal just 4 bolts each side just make sure that box is really far forward. if you do a drop box or move your axle up in the future the box will already be in position and you wont have to move it again.

Also I highly recommend a frame plate for the IFS box. the kit marlin sells is cheap and gets the job done well. frame is not so strong where the box mounts and can tear off easy with big tires and stress. losing a box on the trail isnt fun Very Happy

Tie Rod Ends, FJ-80
These tie rod ends are the standard ones Aftermarket Companys use for the Toyota High Steer since they have the same taper as the mini trucks but they have a much larger 23mm x 1.50 threads. These are stock on 1991 thru 1997 FJ-80 Toyota LandCruisers relay rod ends.

Power Steering Box Location, Moving it Forward by Bones
Since this has been on numerous threads, I may as well post it here. Here's an IFS steering box moved as far forward as I could (2.5"~) and hacked the radiator support to boot. Ref: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showt...t=steering+box
More pictures of mounting the power steering IFS boxes here:
