started my backyard rc play area + pics of my crawler

Post by snowshoebrue on Wed Nov 11, 2009 7:42 pm

I went up to my parents house last weekend, so i used the tractor and went down to the creek and got some rocks to start my backyard crawl. Next time i am up there i will get another load to expand it. Its alot easier to load rocks with a tractor than it is to unload them with a cheap wheelbarrow

i definately don't have the 1000 dollar comp rig. i picked up a rtc axial with the pirate discount for about 240 shipped. i need to move the concrete to the other side of the tree. my wife doesn't like seeing that from the patio, so i am gonna go get a couple more loads of rocks from my parents next week. i will fill that area with rocks and then i was gonna build a tower/bridge on the other side with the concrete pillar blocks and tree skin

my parents have 2 seasonal creeks that run through their property and the full time creek is just across the back pasture. it actually work to my favor because my parents have been digging up one of the creeks to get rock for their back wall/graden area, so all the reject rocks are just laying down by the creek and all i have to do it take the tractor down and load them up. i will grab another load when i am up there for turkey day. thanks for the offer though rob

How long does the battery last? Did it come with the controller, battery, everything to get started? When are we goin wheelin?

Thx Chris

They are pretty durable, the neighbor kid was over when i was hanging the x-mas lights and he had no throttle control and thought it was more fun to flip it off the fence repeatedly then to drive over the rocks. The only thing you need for for the axial is a battery and a charger.  i bought 4 3600 nimh stick batteries for 50 bucks off ebay.  They will last over an hour each, and the charger was 39 at the hobby store.  The nice part about the axial is you can upgrade it later to lipo batteries, dig trans, coll stuff like that or run it in stock form. I ended up buying a rockslide rs10 for my dad to play with when we are together.  You can pick them up for 139-159 on ebay.  they are kinda cheap but it would work.
Trail gear is alright on their prices, but their shipping it retarded.  they want way to much, i had my kit shipped from reno for like 20 bucks less than it would cost to come from fresno(80 miles away).
You might look into the losi 1/24 scale you can get it for 139 and they would be perfect for in the house

I painted a new body for my axial and got a painted lid for the redcat for cheap. The cheap airbrush i bought was a pos and i ended up having to use spray paint on the truck. I got my rooster esc so now i can tear the axial apart and put in the new motor, esc, and my dig.

I am now gonna put a waterfall and little pond in the rock course. i got another load of rocks last weekend. The pond is a pre-formed the base is 39x 30x11 deep and the cascading waterfall is 2' x 3'. Right now i have about 6-7 thousand lbs of rocks in the back yard

try to make sure your rock crawler RC don't fall in the water total water semertion usually kills the main servo and the RC dies a horrible death. fyi

hey I have an traxis rc truck but its only 2wd but after reading tread I might use parts and build a losi 4x4 truck. I try racing it but I wasnt the fastest truck because the rc class allowed all types so my truck was racing against team associated buggies, losi, traxxis buggies. I got discouraged when I went off a big jump in a race hit another buggy and broke the rear of my frame in 1/2. then everyone said buy a buggy or losi rc cus the frame was plastic and not carbon fiber.

long story short I think I might make a rock crawler buggy out of it. just looking into what i can salvage out of it.

.

ya i won't be crawling in the waterfall. Mainly it was to tie in my rock pile to the yard so the rocks didn't look "out of place"
