Howdy from Yuma, AZ!

Post by Red Leader on Fri Apr 11, 2008 6:48 am

My name is Chris. I am the founder of the Yuma 4-Wheelers 4X4 Truck and Jeep Club. I'm known as the "Red Leader" because I have lead over 312 club runs, since the club started 3 years ago and I drive a "red" Toyota.
I do all my own work, including engine building. I'm a true "grease monkey"! I used to be a "Chevy Man" (that's what my friends called me because of my knowledge about Chevy trucks), and I used to restore Chevy cars and trucks. My specialty was 1967 - 72, but I have done a few "Advanced Design" trucks too. (Advanced Design trucks were made from 1947 - 55).
I restored a 1970 Nova SS then I realized "I don't like cars". So I stuck with the trucks until gas got so high I couldn't afford to go 4-wheeling, so I traded my last Chevy, a 1969 "Longhorn" for my 1984 Toyota 4X4. I keep wondering why I waited so long. I love my Yota and wouldn't trade or sell it for anything in the world.

Some of my projects:
1971 Chevy K-20: New paint and interior, factory A/C, shortened the frame and made it a short bed. Sold it for $7200.00

1070 Chevy K-5 Blazer: New paint and interior, totally gutted the 4x4 suspension and replaced it with a shortened Ford 9" in the rear and a suspension from a 1965 Chevy truck in front. Engine was a 406 SBC. 9 sec. in 1/4 mile! Was the fastest "truck" in Yuma County. Sold it (whith a stock engine/tranny) for $5000.00

1970 Nova SS: New paint, interior, rebuilt 350 SBC... Bad Assed! I had just got it back from painting and was putting the chrome back on it when this picture was taken. Sold it for $3500.00

1980 Toyota Pickup: Fully caged, 4-link rear suspension, modified 22R with 4.0 Jeep intake valves and Chrvy 350 pistons. Sold it for $3000.00

1984 Toyota X-Cab: I listed everything in the rig forum.

I try not to. My truck is "street legal" except for the no mud flaps. Everytime I go into Witerhaven, I get pulled over for not having them. Every time I put them on, one or both gets yanked off in the rocks. That's $20.00 a set each time I lose one. That's damn near a half a tank of gas! I'd rather spend my money on the gas. Laughing

Thanks. I used to live in Nor Cal. I spent some time in the Shasta County Juvie Hall and Red Bluff Juvie Hall. I ended up in Stockton for a while. You all know about Stockton, right? Cal got to own me for 5.5 years. Crying or Very sad
