Headlights won't shut off...
Yeah, I know, this is rediculous!
I pulled up to work this morning and shut my headlights off (pushed the switch in), and my headlights went off, but my switch failed to go in the extra click to turn off my running lights. '88 Ford Ranger 4x4 2.9L. Yesterday the little black plate on the front of the switch came off:

So I tried to put it back on when I stopped for dinner, but I didn't try real hard, and didn't think much of it.
Today, I got to work and my lights wouldn't go off completely and the rod in the middle was like this and I couldn't get it to budge
(sorry, cell phone pic took about 10 mins ago

Wth.... Wierd, I wouldn't think it'd be a new switch. If I could get that thing to go back in, I couldn't glue the black thing back on?

Re: Headlights won't shut off...
I have seen where reproduction switches are not exactly OEM quality and can have problems from the gate. I had a replacement switch for my old vw that never did work very well I ended up finding one at Pick n pull that was OE to replace it. Just food for thought.

Re: Headlights won't shut off...
if you drop your fuse block door and remove the 2 screws on the fuse block you can get to the back of the switch, there should be spring loaded push button switch. push it in and pull on whats left of the pull knob and it will release and you slide another one in. usually from dorman or help at your local parts slinger. you can also get the one from the JY. If you wanna replace the entire switch drop the fuse block pull off that portion of dash trim and there is a threaded nut. unscrew it, push it through into the dash and you can unhook the connector and drop the switch. Make sure you take a good look at the connector body after you remove the switch. The 80s ford are notorious for running too much current through the switch and body starts to melt. went through it twice on my ranger.
