89 F250 460

Post by BIG BLING on Wed Dec 26, 2007 4:31 pm

OK here is the problem. After I was towing the jeep for like 15 minutes the truck started to make a noise like a bad miss in the engine. When I pulled over to check it out it would not make a miss noise in nuetral but would do it in drive. I think it has something to do with the exhaust manifold. We just kept on driving it and it got about 4 mpg and stunk up the whole cab with gas smell. any ideas?

I would check the cat as well, and pull the plugs to check it. I will call my uncle he is a master mechanic and seems to know everything!

Check the dizzy to make sure its tight.

Have you done any work on it in the past few weeks?

no work to it lately, it sounds like it is blowing out exhaust then it sounds like it is going down the manifold :dunno:

Did the engine pulse like it was missing or just sound that way? From it only doing it in Drive and not N it defenently is related to load. um let me do some research at work I will see what I can come up with.

It only did it in drive. It almost seems like it's only running on 7 cylinders. We used to have a van that did the exact same thing. No problems in Neutral and park, but once you get to movin it bogged down.

Got it fixed. The exhaust was so hot after burning the gaskets out that it took out 4 plug wires. This is the first vehicle that I have ever seen that took D port exhaust on one side and O exhaust on the other. *** Tip of the day. When you have the old gaskets out match them up. Gone
